CHAPTER 17

SOPHIE

I watch the drops of water trickle down the window. What the hell just happened? I was about to order pizza when there was a knock at my door. I thought it was Liam because I never get people over besides Mila. But it was Eric standing in my doorway in his polo shirt and denim jeans, his beautiful curls draped over his face. I used to love seeing Eric standing in my doorway, use to love how his golden sun-kissed hair covered his eyes. But tonight, all I felt was disgust. It wasn’t so much his betrayal, sleeping with another woman. It was more how he made me feel for years. I hadn’t realized it until Liam came around. We are not an item. We are straight out fucking, nothing else. But he never makes me feel any less; he makes me feel more. My insides melted like a hot wick candle on a dark night when he said he wanted to be next to me every second of the day.

My stomach dropped in agony when he walked in on Eric’s kiss, I thought he would think I wanted Eric to kiss me. Liam protecting me with such rage is hot. My head jolts when I see Eric storm out of the house. I don’t feel the need to run after him; he’s not who I want. Obviously—I’m sitting here waiting for Liam like an obedient dog.

Five minutes later, Liam strolls out of my house with a bag and my purse. He looks like an angry god, hair wet and shirt soaked as the rain comes down harder and thunder rattles the night. He hops in, tossing my stuff in the backseat of his Camaro. Without a word, he starts the engine. The car roars to life, his beautiful gray eyes look to mine, a strand of hair draped over his eye. Leaning in, I brush it to the side. God, I want to kiss him. It hurts that he rejected my kiss earlier. Will he ever kiss me again?

“Let’s go,” he fumes, protectiveness coursing through his veins.

Is it wrong it turns me on? Liam tossing Eric off of me was the sexiest thing I’ve ever seen. He drives angrily on the highway until we take an exit into Mission Drive. We drive up into a beautiful neighborhood surrounded by green trees and beautifully landscaped flowers. Liam has been silent the whole way. He should have left me at home if my presence is too much for him. He clearly doesn’t want my company, but he wants me here with him.

He parks the car in front of a small home with a beautiful patio and a small garage, a white fence surrounding the place. It’s cute. When he stops the engine, I reach for my bags.

I step into his home, and my eyes immediately dart around the spotless room. The color palette is dull, with no splash of color, but there are hints of warmth in the cozy blanket draped over the leather sofa and photos of him as a small child lining the walls.
